Shirley Ann (Davenport) Hatfield

Shirley Ann Hatfield, age 88 of Osceola, went home to be with Jesus on March 14, 2024. Shirley was born in the Chicago area to Rev. Elmer Davenport Sr. and Doris Irene Davenport (Shumate) on November 12, 1935. On June 28, 1958, she married Alan Hatfield at South Bend First Church of the Nazarene in South Bend, IN.

Before moving to Osceola, Shirley also lived in Buchanan, Michigan, South Bend, IN and Mishawaka, IN. In Osceola, Al and Shirley raised four children. Shirley worked for Penn Harris Madison School Corporation, first at Osceola School then Moran Elementary where she retired from. To fill her days she went back to work as a substitute teacher at Elm Road and Grissom Middle school where she worked until 2018.

Shirley and her husband were in charge of Osceola Little League for many years. Shirley also enjoyed playing piano.

Shirley is survived by her sons Mark Hatfield of Granger, Lowell (Ruth) Hatfield of Argos, and a daughter, Brenda K (Drew) Wohlford, of Osceola. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents Elmer Davenport Sr. (1996), Doris Davenport (2002), a brother Elmer Davenport Jr (2019), her husband Alan Hatfield (2020) and a son Robert Hatfield (2021) as well as a grandson Aaron Michael Hatfield (1987)

There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am funeral service on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Bethany Missionary Church, 56295 Co Rd 1, Elkhart, IN 46516.  Following her funeral service, Shirley will be laid to rest beside her husband Alan in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.  Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola has been entrusted with her care.

The family would like to thank the nurses and aides from Heart-to-Heart Hospice for making her homegoing dignified and respectful and the support they gave the family.

In Shirley’s memory, the family’s preferred memorials are to the Bethany Missionary Church and the Alzheimers Association.
