Penny Lynn (Garman) Nelson

Penny Lynn Nelson, age 64 of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.  Penny was born April 8, 1955 in Mishawaka to Hugh and Juanita (Thuys) Garman.  She attended Mishawaka High School, and was employed for 39 years at JANCO, spending over 20 of those years as an inspector in shipping and receiving. 

Penny is survived by two daughters; Crystal (Mark) Sickling and Billie Jo Nelson, both of Mishawaka, a granddaughter Kaitlin and her siblings Kathy (John) Knapp, Virginia (Manuel) Palmerin, Tammy (Mark) Patterson, Craig Garman, Tom (Nancy) Garman, and Randy (Diane) Garman.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.  Penny was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Michael Garman, and her sister-in-law Debbie Garman.

There will be a celebration of Penny’s life from 1-6 pm at the BK Club in Mishawaka on Saturday, December 28, 2019.    Cruz Family Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

In her spare time, Penny enjoyed going to garage sales and estate sales, watching tv and movies.  She was also a member of the BK Club in Mishawaka and enjoyed singing karaoke at Gordie’s in Mishawaka. 

Most of all, she loved being with her family.  She loved tailgating Notre Dame football games with her brother Tom, camping at the Indianapolis 500, and spending time on Lake Juno at Camp Wildwood with her sister Tammy.

Her spirit of generosity, kindness, and good humor will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
