Allen J. Nehls Smith

Allen J. Nehls Smith, 40, of Elkhart, passed unexpectedly on Friday, June 26, 2026, at home. He was born in Elkhart on June 28, 1985, to Tommy Nehls and Joann (McDonald) Garrison, and later married Margaret “Maggie” Smith.

All three survive, along with his son, Adam Smith; siblings, Sonya Garrison, Jeremy Carlisle, Samantha Luce, Scotty Lehman, Brianna Nehls, Tommy Nehls, Jr., and Ashley Brasfield; and grandmother, C.J. Louder. Allen was preceded in death by a daughter, Hailey Smith; sister, Stephanie Luncford; and grandmother, Omie Milbourn Bixby.

Allen was a hard worker who took pride in providing for his family. He served as a driver for Custom Wood Products in Elkhart, and worked at Subway when he could, always willing to pick up extra time when needed. Outside of work, he loved spending time with his family, especially enjoying simple moments together like watching movies and creating homemade cooking videos for fun, trying out new recipes, and sharing the meals he made. Allen loved playing board games and being around the people he loved most.

A time to visit with family and friends is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 11 to 1 pm at Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola. Cremation will follow the gathering time, and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
