She was born in Albion, IN on Dec. 12, 1935, to the late Orley and Bernice (Pippenger) Miller, and married Robert Whitmer on Nov. 26, 1954, who preceded her in death in 2016.

Surviving are their children, Diane (Joseph) Chapman, and Annette Smeltzer, both of Wakarusa, and Tammy (Matt Borkholder) Wilson of Nappanee. Betty’s siblings, Jerry Miller, Irene (Dick) Carrick, Thelma (Jerry) Neff, and Carolyn Weldy, along with six grandchildren, John Walters, Joanna (Shawn) Jensen, Hannah (Cory) Emery, Savannah (J.J.) Anglemeyer, Ariel Whitmer, and Spencer (Samantha) Wilson, 15 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren also survive. Along with Betty’s parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Whitmer in 2017, and brother Larry in 2016.

Betty worked as a seamstress for many years before her retirement from Blue Bells Lux and Associates. Outside of work, she was the matriarch of her family, known for her quick wit, generous spirit, and the love she had for those closest to her. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, and Price is Right, working on word search puzzles, and was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and Betty Boop. Above all, Betty cherished the time she spent with her family and will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Cremation has taken place with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Center for Hospice Care.
