Bill E. Hutts, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Elkhart on Saturday, April 22, 2023.  Bill was born July 5, 1944, in Danville, Illinois to the late Harold and Maxine (Sprouls) Hutts.  He was a graduate of Edwardsburg High School, class of 1963.  On January 6, 1973, he married the former Ms. Barbara Roempagel in Mishawaka, Indiana.  They recently celebrated their 5oth anniversary.

Barbara survives, along with their daughters Marlo (George) Line of Elkhart and Shawna (Raymond) Ferguson of Kalamazoo, Michigan.  Surviving as well are his grandchildren Matthew (fiancé, Kristin Bigler) Lyon, Hannah Lyon, Lauren (Len) Carruthers, and Joshua (fiancé, Liz Mulcahey) and great-grandchildren Josiah and Paisley.  Bill was preceded in death by his infant brother Gerald Hutts and his brother Jerry Hutts.

Friends and family may gather 2 hours prior to Bill’s Celebration of Life service at 12pm on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola.

From an early age, Bill worked in the construction industry at his father’s business, H&H Builders, where he learned to hone his skills as a builder.  He loved to build log cabin homes and was creative in his ideas for the numerous building projects he was entrusted with. Later, Bill took a custodial position with Jimtown Schools, working in both the elementary and high school for over 15 years prior to his retirement.  While working in the schools, Bill formed numerous friendships with the faculty and students, and was an avid fan of the Jimtown Jimmie’s football and wrestling programs.

He also loved the outdoors.  Bill could often be found spending time fishing and hunting, or just tinkering in his workshop. He and Barb enjoyed traveling and enjoyed finding and collecting rare antiques.

His smile, warm sense of humor, and love for his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be greatly missed.  Bill’s family would like to give a very special thanks to the Promedica Hospice team of Mark, Kelley and Beth for their wonderful care and concern for Bill during his time of need.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.  To light a virtual candle, share a story of Bill’s life, or leave a message of comfort for his family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
