Craig Eugene Pfender, age 79, of Mishawaka, passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center on July 6, 2026. Craig was born November 10, 1946, in Mishawaka to Jack Pfender and June (Bonney) Grudzinski. He graduated from Mishawaka High School with the Class of 1964 and later earned an associate degree in mechanics from Ivy Tech. Craig spent more than 40 years as a tool and die maker at Toolmasters, Inc., where he was known as a hardworking and dependable employee. Although he officially retired in late 2025, he truly never wanted to retire and continued working until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
On September 4, 1976, Craig married Ruth Suddarth at Grace United Methodist Church in South Bend. Together they built a life centered on hard work, family, and loyalty, and were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary later this fall.
Craig enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing and bow hunting. He was a former member of the Michiana Steelhead Club and looked forward to every opportunity to be on the water or in the woods. He also enjoyed trying his luck at the local casinos and was fortunate enough to have a few memorable wins over the years. Craig loved music and had an incredible memory for songs and artists. At the shop, he was usually the person everyone turned to when they wanted to know who sang a particular song. He also enjoyed playing trivia and was known for having an answer for just about everything.
More than anything, Craig was a devoted husband, father, and provider. He worked hard throughout his life to care for those he loved and took pride in providing for his family.
Craig is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ruth Pfender; his son, Jason (Alana Cockey) Pfender; and his brother, Gary (Anna) Pfender. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved German Shepherd, Cassie.
In keeping with Craig's wishes, there will be no formal services. His family asks that you remember him with a smile, a favorite song, or a simple act of kindness toward others. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.
