Darrion Darrnell Henderson, age 17, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Darrion was born on April 1, 2009, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Davon Henderson and Misty Powell. He was an 11th-grade student in Dubuque, Iowa, where he was known, loved, and appreciated by his classmates.

Darrion was a young man whose presence could brighten a room and whose kindness left a lasting impression on those who knew him. Outgoing, loving, funny, and strong, he had a way of making people smile and feel seen. Whether holding the door for a stranger, checking in on family and friends, or offering words of encouragement, Darrion showed others that kindness matters. He carried himself with a caring heart and a spirit that brought people together.

Above all, Darrion was a young man of God whose faith was an important part of his life. He believed in encouraging others and showing love through his actions. His family meant everything to him, and he made it a point to stay connected with the people he loved. He understood the importance of checking on others, letting them know they mattered, and being there when they needed him.

Darrion was also a bright young man who loved school and enjoyed being around his classmates. He was especially fond of his big brother, LaShawn Roosevelt Henderson and his little brother, Hiro Contreres, both of whom he affectionately looked up to as an example of the kind of man he hoped to become. Their brotherly bond was a special one, built on love, admiration, and the connection only brothers can share. Darrion also treasured his role as an uncle to his nephew, Kulture Deshon Henderson, and was eagerly looking forward to meeting his future niece, who is expected later this year.

Though his life was far too short, Darrion made a meaningful impact through his faith, his kindness, his humor, and the love he gave so freely. His family and friends will forever cherish his smile, his caring nature, and the memories they shared with him. While his absence leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who love him, they can find comfort in their faith and in knowing that the love Darrion gave will continue to live on through them.

Darrion is survived by his parents, Davon Henderson and Misty Powell; his siblings, Alexis Ann Marie (Bryce) Moreno and LaShawn Roosevelt Henderson; his grandparents, Jerome Randall and Evon (David Roberts) Henderson; his aunts, Shakch, Shanay, Shatavia, Laney, Gwen, and Rhonda; and his uncle, Jerome Wilson. Also surviving are his cousins, Da’Marianna, Shakyla, and Derrick “PJ,” along with a host of other cousins, his nephew, Kulture Deshon Henderson, and his soon-to-arrive niece, whom he was so excited to meet.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Annie Powell, Jimmy Smith, Joyce Wilson, Lavern Suggs, Rosie Wilson, John Wilson, and Bobby Henderson, and his great-uncle, Steve Wilson.

Darrion’s time here was much too short, but the love he shared and the lives he touched will never be forgotten. His family will carry his memory forward, holding close the laughter, the lessons, the love, and the faith he leaves behind. Though they must say goodbye for now, they can take comfort in the promise of eternal life and the hope of one day being reunited with him in the presence of the Lord.
