Douglas “Doug” Briner, 73, of Elkhart died Friday, December 8, 2023, with family at his bedside. He was born on November 22, 1950, in South Bend to the late Lee Howard Briner and June Pearl King. On March 3, 1972, he married his high school sweetheart, Terri Hunter in Adamsville, MI.
She survives along with their children Cory (Anna) Briner of Three Rivers, MI and Derek (Jeff) Briner of Catonsville, MD. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Tom and Gail Briner.
Doug attended Lier Seigler Institute in Indianapolis to achieve an associate degree in computer programming. Shortly after graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served during Vietnam and earned the rank of Specialist 4. Once he returned home, he worked as a carpenter, subcontracting for multiple different companies and people within his community. He was a proud member of the Baugo Lions Club, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing softball. Doug had a huge heart for others trying to brighten their day with laughter, or having debates around political opinion if someone was up to the challenge. But, His biggest joy in life was supporting his family and children and attending every event he could.
Following Doug’s wishes, his family has decided on cremation with a private Celebration of Life held with family at a later date. In lieu of flowers and to honor Doug’s life, memorial contributions can be sent to the Baugo Lions Club.
