Douglas Ray Smith, 71, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away on October 6, 2025 after an eight-year battle with Prostate Cancer. He was born on May 18, 1954, in Niles, Michigan to the late Allison and Veta (Williams) Smith, and later married Susan Squibb, who survives. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Shontell, and sister Sally Rockefeller.

Along with Susan, their children, Stacey (Jason) Tighe, of Edwardsburg, and Ryan (Janice) Smith of Edwardsburg, also survive. Douglas leaves behind his five grandchildren, Jarrett and Jenalee Tighe, Mayson and Keaton Smith, Madison Baker, and great-granddaughter Myanna. He is also survived by his brother Warren (Sharon) Smith.

Doug graduated from Edwardsburg High School in 1972 and spent his working years in the RV industry before retiring from Monaco in 2008. He was fortunate to enjoy a long retirement and was able to have some amazing travel experiences during these years including trips to the Bahamas; Moab, Utah; Canada; the mountains of Colorado - even taking Route 66 all the way to California. Doug spent his winters in Punta Gorda, Florida at Sun-n-Shade RV Resort and loved every moment of his warm winters spent away from Michigan. He was a member of the Michiana MUGS Car Club and took many trips with them to the races as well as to car shows. Doug inherited his dad’s mechanical ability and could fix up any type of vehicle. He had a constant rotation of cars, motorcycles, tractors, and snowmobiles. Doug always had his music playing in the background. He played guitar in local bands during his younger years and maintained a mean air guitar right up until the end. Doug will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Cruz Family Funeral Home, Osceola, has been entrusted with his care and cremation has taken place. A time to celebrate Doug’s life is planned for Saturday, November 1 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at 30261 Middle Crossing Road, Dowagiac, Michigan.
