Gary D. Squint

Gary Dawane Squint, age 42, of Bourbon, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at Memorial Hospital in South Bend on July 19, 2026. Gary was born on October 26, 1983, in South Bend. He later graduated from Dyersburg High School in Tennessee before joining the roofing industry. He eventually became a sandblaster at Faulkner Fabricating in Bourbon, a job he truly enjoyed. Gary was a hard worker who took pride in what he did and earned the respect of both his coworkers and supervisors.

Gary loved spending time outdoors, whether he was fishing, boating, kayaking on the Tippecanoe River, or taking long walks in nature with his children. He was a devoted fan of Notre Dame sports, especially when it came to football. Some of his favorite moments were spent building Lego sets with his kids, listening to music, and trying new foods. He considered himself a foodie and always appreciated a good meal. While he enjoyed many things in life and took great pride in his work, his family was always what mattered most to him. Those closest to him knew his kind heart and the soft side he rarely showed to others.

He is survived by the love of his life, his fiancée, Valerie Colwell; his children, Chase Squint, Piper Franklin, Gary Squint Jr., Kloe Squint, Jazmin Squint, Angelique Squint, Hunter Lee Colwell, and his "bonus son," Bryce Colwell; his father, Richard "Buck" Squint; his mother, Sandra "Kay" Kearney; and his siblings, Samantha (Michael) Anderson, Richard "Richie" Squint III, and Callie (Anthony Chipps) Vinson.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at Northway Church of Christ, 19525 Auten Road, South Bend, IN 46637. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.
