Howard LeRoy Castell Jr.

Howard LeRoy Castell Jr., age 79, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, while under the care of the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan. Howard was born on March 3, 1947, in Peru, Indiana, to the late Howard L. Castell Sr. and Beulah M. (Wood) Castell.

He spent his entire career in the tire industry, beginning as a tire salesman with Fouts Tire in Kokomo. Over the years, he also worked for Zolman Tire, Montieth Tire and owned his own tire business. In retirement, he enjoyed operating his part-time resale shop in Niles, Michigan, where he loved searching for unique treasures and sharing them with his customers.

Howard is survived by his children, Heather (Todd) Pepper of Edwardsburg, Michigan, Chris (Boon) Castell of Granger, and Kelly (Brad) Citter of Osceola; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his uncle, Danny (Charlotte) Castell of Florida. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his half-sister, Norma Chrisman.

He was an accomplished bowler who competed on the Professional Bowlers Association Tour for several years. In recognition of his achievements, he was inducted into the South Bend/Mishawaka Bowlers Hall of Fame.

Howard was an avid fishermen and guide for his son on the lakes of Indiana and Michigan. He loved softball and spent many years playing and coaching slow-pitch softball in the Logansport area. He also coached girls’ softball and enjoyed helping young athletes develop their skills and confidence in bowling. He was also an animal lover which kept life entertaining.

In keeping with Howard's wishes, there will be no formal services. He will be laid to rest beside his parents at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana, at a later date. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.
