James Wm. Thrasher

James William Thrasher, age 72 of South Bend, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, August 10th, 2026. James was born to Wesley and Loretta (Briley) Thrasher on September 30th, 1953. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Thrasher, along with their three daughters: Danielle Chester of Mishawaka, Karol Thrasher of Mishawaka, and Jamie Thrasher of South Bend.

He is also survived by his brother James "Kenny" (Pamela) Horton. He was a proud PawPaw and leaves behind three grandchildren: James, Kate, and Josiah.

He is preceded in death by both parents, the man who raised him after his father and grandfather died in a car accident when he was two years old - his uncle Emerson "Max" Thrasher, two brothers, Wesley Thrasher and Emerson Thrasher, one sister Jenna Cannon, sister-in-law Diana (Richard) Regulinski, and brother-in-law Michael (Connie) Martin.

“Jimmy,” as most people knew him, was part of the local music scene for over 40 years. His passion for playing the drums started at the age of six, with his biggest influences being Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. He also had a great admiration for Elvis Presley, having visited Graceland many times and collected his memorabilia.

He was truly a one-of-a-kind human being. Having had a tough upbringing in his early years, this never stopped him from pursuing his dreams. He said exactly what he thought, whether you agreed with him or not, but he was also incredibly generous, giving you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral or memorial service will be held. A celebration of life will be planned and announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Center for Hospice Care.
