Janet Szabo

Janet Szabo, 79, of Osceola, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 15th. She was born in Mishawaka on June 21, 1947, to the late Ward and Grace (Hall) Severeid. On October 15th, 1966 she married Anthony Szabo and built a life centered on family, laughter and making others feel welcome.

To know Janet was to know laughter. She never met a stranger and had gift for making people feel like old friends. Whether she was bowling with the Thursday Morning Misses or sitting around the table for a spirited game of Euchre, Janet found joy in bringing people together. A creative spirit, she loved crafting and sharing her creations at local craft shows.

Christmas was Janet's favorite time of year. She delighted children by volunteering as Mrs. Claus and at home she created treasured family traditions. Her famous Kringla cookies were a highlight of every Christmas season; with family eagerly awaiting the first batch each year. To those who love her Christmas will always carry a little piece of Janet.

Her family and friends will remember her quick wit, infectious laugh and caring heart. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created will continue to bring smiles to all that knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law Jason and Holly (Hasty) Szabo who lovingly cared for her throughout her final years ensuring she could stay in her home surrounded by comfort, dignity and unwavering love.

Janet is also survived by her brother Tom Severeid of South Bend; her daughter in law Deb Bush, granddaughters Megan Szabo, Emily Camper and Anna Portz; and her great granddaughter Ellie Portz. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anthony, her son Tony Szabo and her brothers Don, Bob, Bill and Jim Severeid.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced. In lieu of flowers the family gratefully welcomes memorial contributions to assist with final arrangements and related expenses. Any support is deeply appreciated during this difficult time.
