Julia M. Rister, 68, of Mishawaka bravely fought until her passing on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with family by her side. She was born on January 31, 1958, in Mishawaka to the late James “Jim” and Pearl (Sandefur) Johnson.
Surviving are her children, Tara Fecho and William “Billy” (Laura) Milcherska Baker, both of South Bend, and Danny Milcherska of Mishawaka. Her grandchildren, Bria (Jeydon) Aviles, Abbigayle Milcherska, Melanie Ginther, Cameron and Bryleigh Welch, and Chief the Cheagle. Julia’s siblings, Paul (Kim) Johnson, Marty (Kelly) Johnson, Jaynie Bruce Mason and Brian Mason, and stepmother, Norma Johnson also survive.
Julia was a proud 1977 graduate of Mishawaka High School. Growing up, she loved singing in the choir, and continued to share her love of music, especially through karaoke. She had a creative and artsy spirit and a sentimental heart, carefully preserving keepsakes like her children's special-event outfits, their artwork, and her son's military dog tags. Above all, Julia c herished her family. She especially adored her grandchildren and showed her love by baking delicious cakes and sweet treats. She will be greatly missed.
Cremation has taken place with a private family gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
