Richard “Rich” K. Sudlow went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 12, 2025. His final days were spent at home with his family and friends around him.
Survived by his wife of 40 years is Cindy and their 2 daughters Jena Sudlow and Anna Picking. He also leaves behind his mother, Katie Sudlow Crabb, and sister Kathleen (David) Schafer. He is proceeded by four special family friends: Brad Rizor, Adam Piatkowski, Tyler Ward, and Derrick Santistevan. He also has four grandchildren Liam, Layton, Ariel and Kara who were very close to his heart.
Rich was preceded in death by his father, Richard C. Sudlow and stepfather Rev. Glen Crabb. Honorable memories go to Carl Modlin, a special friend of the entire Sudlow family.
Rich grew up going to Gospel Center Missionary Church. During his teen years, he spent them learning and working with Dick Riggs in the control room. He gained a sense of working knowledge on the various jobs in the sound booth thus began his love of technology and computers. He went to college at Bethel University and Valparaiso Technical Institute. His working career began in Florida at Harris Government Aerospace Division for a year. Rich then moved back to South Bend to work at Tellabs for 7 years. He continued his passion for computers at Notre Dame University for over 33 years before retiring in 2022.
Rich loved birdwatching and nature. At his home, he kept his bird feeders full to feed the birds and peanuts for the squirrels. His favorite places to travel were in Upper Michigan: Paradise, Sault Ste Marie, Newberry, Bois Blanc, and Mackinaw Island. He made a point to vacation up there several times a year because it wasn’t “crowded.” He loved to watch the Great Lake Ships and birds glide through the air from his front row lawn chair at the water’s edge.
