Robert C. "Rob" VanDeGenahte

Robert VanDeGenahte, 57, of Mishawaka, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Rob was born on August 18, 1967, in South Bend, Indiana, to Charles and Sandra (Stuart) VanDeGenahte. He graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1986. On February 14, 1992, Rob married Barbara Banicki, and together they shared 33 wonderful years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Barb VanDeGenahte of Mishawaka, their children Samantha (Tevin) Jones and Devin (Laura) VanDeGenahte, and his granddaughter, Penelope “Poppy” Jones. Surviving as well is his mother, Sandra Wetzel and his siblings James (Christina) VanDeGenahte and Carla Jedrzejek. He was preceded in death by his father Charles VanDeGenahte and his mother Sandra’s second husband, David Wetzel.

A celebration of Rob’s life will be held from 4-7pm Friday, June 27, 2025, at the De Amicis Club, 302 W 11th St, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.

Rob was employed by the School City of Mishawaka for over 20 years, where he was respected by his peers and the staff. He also used his skills in maintenance to help others whenever needed. He was very knowledgeable in many areas and was always willing to help. Rob knew no strangers and often ran into someone he knew everywhere he went because of his position at the school. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching movies and woodworking. He collected a variety of items and loved dogs, especially his “grand dogs.”
