Russell Gant

Russell Leonard “Russ” Gant, age 69, of South Bend, passed away on July 5, 2026. He was born January 13, 1957, in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Leonard Russell and Melba Jean (Newton) Gant.

Russ was a graduate of Penn High School, where he was a four-year starter at guard on the offensive line and earned a football scholarship to Franklin College. He later completed his bachelor's degree at Bethel University.

He is survived by his brother, James Gant of Mishawaka; his sister, Marjorie (Terry) Kosinski of Arkansas; and many extended family members and friends.

Russ worked in the telecommunications industry for many years as a repairman and retired from Comcast in 2022. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs and was a self-taught computer expert who became the go-to source for family and friends needing technical help. An excellent grill master, Russ enjoyed hosting hog roasts with his best friend, Dennis Beehler. He had recently purchased a catering truck and looked forward to catering events for others.

In keeping with Russ’ wishes, no services will be held. His family asks that he be remembered through acts of kindness and generosity. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.
