Sandra “Sandy” K. Curtis, 78, of Bremen bravely fought until her final breath on Friday, November 7, 2025, at her home. She was born on January 7, 1947, in South Bend to the late Adrian and Beverly (Wilson) Needham. A local Osceola resident for most of her life, she was a proud Penn High School graduate and married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas “Tom” Curtis after graduation and celebrated 58 years of marriage together.
Tom survives along with their children, Jeff (Tena) Curtis, of Salt Lake City, UT, and Julie Curtis of Lafayette. A grandson, Avery Curtis, and brother, Tony Needham of Florida also survive. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Teri Vinson.
Sandy spent much of her career as a data analyst for several large corporations and legal firms, but she was best known as the “neighborhood mom.” She loved being involved in every part of her children’s lives—cheering them on at games and youth programs, writing the monthly family newsletter for the youth sports association that she helped run, or joining in with bowling leagues and community groups. A devoted NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr., she loved traveling to races like Bristol Speedway in Tennessee and the Indianapolis 500 with her daughter, and watching every race she could with her grandson, Avery. Sandy loved spending time on the St. Joseph River, where both Sandy and Tom grew up and would spend countless hours there, some of her fondest memories were of Tom pulling up in his boat to pick her up. In her later years, Sandy loved making trips to visit family and friends whenever she could. Family was always at the center of her life, and her infectious laugh and playful, prankster spirit made her a joy to be around. Sandy’s kindness and energy left an impression on everyone she met, and she will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cremation has taken place with a celebration of life gathering to be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, or Wounded Warrior Project.
