Sherry Jean Squires, age 76, of Osceola, passed away on September 14, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital. She was born on December 23, 1948, in Goshen, Indiana, to the late Lewis and Vivian (Miller) Reed. She was employed for more than 20 years as a flute finisher at the Gemeinhardt factory in Elkhart. In 2005, at the age of 57 she decided to complete her GED. She then attended Ivy Tech and received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Paralegal studies at the age of 60. She worked as a paralegal for the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office until her retirement.
Sherry is survived by her children, Scott (Julie) Pierce, Marci (Arron) Brubaker, and Gunnery Sergeant Matthew (Carolyn) Squires; her stepchildren, Tim Harmon and Rex Harmon; and her siblings, Dennis Wollen, Caroline “Susie” Willie, and Lewis (Madeline) Reed Jr. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Cory (Brenna) Harmon, Kayla Harmon, Kelsi (Luke) Tarver, Katie (Travis) Mauer, Max Harmon, Kallie Harmon, Trae (Sydney) Brubaker, Braedon Brubaker, Michael Harmon, Zander Harmon, Zachary Pierce, Connor Squires, and Odin Squires, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Squires, in 2008, and her brother, Steven Wollen.
A celebration of Sherry’s life will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 4–8 PM at her son Scott’s home, 29343 County Rd. 28, Elkhart, IN 46517. Cruz Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements.
Family was the center of Sherry’s life. She faithfully supported her grandchildren and made every effort to be present at their activities and events. She loved dogs, especially those belonging to her children and grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed reading mystery novels, playing card games, especially euchre, with family, and traveling to visit her son while he was stationed overseas. Sherry will be remembered as a kind and generous woman who gave freely to charities in need.
