Stephen R. Overman

Stephen Ray Overman, age 73, of Osceola, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, following complications from an automobile accident earlier this year. He was born on June 9, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Charles and Elnora (Buis) Overman. Steve graduated from Concord High School and went on to spend more than 20 years as President of Behmer Communications. After retiring, he continued to stay active in the community by working part-time at Hinges and Handles in Osceola.

Steve is survived by his mother, Elnora Overman of Gallatin, Missouri; his foster son, Donald Wolf Jr. of Osceola; his lifelong friend, John Behmer of South Bend; and his siblings Daniel Lee Overman of Rancho Rio, New Mexico, Lenora Schuh of Gallatin, Missouri, and Charles Overman of Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles.

Steve lived a life of kindness, creativity, and a genuine appreciation for the world around him. He was a devoted foster parent who cared deeply for Donald and approached that role with sincerity and compassion. He loved working in his yard, tending to his flowers, and finding peace in nature, whether he was camping in his younger years or simply enjoying leaves changing of the seasons. Many of Steve’s favorite moments were the ones he shared with his foster son, Donald Wolf Jr. The two spent countless hours walking along Baugo Creek, visiting the bird sanctuary, and admiring the fall colors in the park. They also shared a special joy for Christmastime and the lights and traditions that came with it.

Steve was also a talented musician who loved classical music and played both the piano and violin. Above all, he was known for his generous heart and his willingness to help anyone who needed it.

Visitation will be held from 4–7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Additional visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, prior to the 1:00 p.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery in Elkhart.
