Thomas “Tom” J. Peterson, 68, of Edwardsburg, MI passed away Monday, June 29th at home with his daughter by his side. Tom was born on September 25, 1957, in Dowagiac, MI, to the late Marvin and Catherine (Stanton) Peterson and grew up in Dowagiac and moved to Osceola, IN, during high school. A proud 1976 graduate of Brethren Christian High School, he married Sue Kalil for 22 years and remained very good friends.
Sue (Rick) Persun survives along with their daughter, Jennifer (Jason Hooks) Peterson; Tom’s beloved granddaughters, Alivia, who he lovingly called “Al,” and Elliana, who was affectionately known as “Squirrel,” and special friend, Aurora Lampa; his siblings, Jeanne Gonzales of Watkinsville, GA, Kathy Steele of South Bend, and John Peterson of Granger; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his very close personal friends, Joe (Angie) Stapp, Paul (Brenda) Fizer, and Dr. Jeff (Rhona) Feltzer.
Of all the people Tom leaves behind, his three girls, Jennifer, Alivia, and Elliana, truly were his world. His greatest joy came from the time he spent with them, creating memories, sharing stories, and simply being together. Tom loved his family and friends deeply and cherished every opportunity to gather and enjoy life together. Tom had a passion for the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He never missed an opening day in Michigan or Indiana and was especially proud of his hunting accomplishments, holding the #1 Deer in Indiana for nearly 20 years. Beyond the outdoors, Tom was also a fan of 1970s rock music and dedicated many years of his career as a maintenance supervisor with Thermoplastics and Nyloncraft before his retirement. He will be remembered for his love of family, his friendships, his stories, and the many memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.
Cremation has taken place with a private family celebration to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be gifted to help cover final expenses for cremation and the memorial gathering.
