Dowagiac, Formerly Irons, MI

Listen to Obituary

William “Ray” Engler, 82, of Mishawaka, formerly Irons, MI, bravely fought cancer until his passing on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family. He was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Dowagiac, MI, to the late Raymond Leonard and Francis (Speck) Engler. Surviving are his children, Cindy (Tony) Squint of Mishawaka and Kirk (Holly Williams) Engler of Dowagiac, four grandchildren, Tyler, Seth, and Matthew Engler, and Seaira Squint, and two sisters, Louise Engler and Joyce Squires, both of Michigan.

Ray spent his working life as a printer, with a natural talent for anything related to paper and the printed word. Outside of work, he found his greatest joy in the simple rhythms of life—especially time spent “up north” in Irons, Michigan. There, he could often be found sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee, enjoying the quiet, or heading out to fish. He cherished being outdoors and never missed an opportunity to gather with family and friends, whether around a campfire under the evening sky or in friendly competition over a game of pool.

Cremation has taken place with no formal services at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to Jackie Walorski VA Clinic in Mishawaka.
