Ali Hartman Obituary

Aaltje “Ali” Johanna Hartman, age 72 of Elkhart, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 8, 2024.  Ali was born April 25, 1951, in Brielle, Netherlands to the late John and Gerda (Spahn) Roskam. At the age of 5, her family moved to the US and at the age of 14, Ali met the love of her life, Harold Lee Hartman at the church they both attended.  Ali knew immediately that he would one day be her husband and on February 24, 1973, they were married in Elkhart, Indiana. Their marriage was a shining example of faith, love and devotion.

Surviving is her husband of 50 years, Harold L. Hartman of Elkhart and their children Matthew (Erin) Hartman and Randy (Ashley) Hartman, both of Elkhart, Paul (Natalia) Hartman of Corydon, Indiana, Kevin Hartman of Elkhart, Crystal Hartman of Custer, South Dakota, Charles (Amanda) Hartman of Indianapolis, Indiana and Larry Blasio of Elkhart.  Surviving as well are 10 grandchildren: Kellen Hartman, Kailyn Hartman, Genesis, Brooklyn, Reese, Megan and Alyssa Hartman, Noah Hartman and Malik and Jocelyn Blasio. Surviving as well is one great granddaughter, Melaina.  Ali is also survived by her brother, John Roskam of Union Michigan.   Her son, Vincent Hartman, her grandson, Braden Hartman and her siblings Audrey and Paul Roskam preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Thursday, January 11, 2024, at EPIC Church, 3524 Harrison Road, Mishawaka, Indiana. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am funeral service at EPIC Church on Friday, January 12, 2024, with interment to follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery, Goshen. Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola has been entrusted with her care. ***A livestream of Ali’s service will be available by following this link http://m.youtube.com/live/8zCt5rvjN0Q?feature=share 10 minutes prior to her service on Friday***

Ali began her professional career as an executive assistant to the Vice President of Tower Savings and Loan. However, her greatest calling was found in her role as a homemaker. Ali, alongside Harold, not only raised their own children but opened their hearts and home to over 225 foster children throughout the years. Her unconditional love for those who needed it the most left a permanent mark on the lives of those she cared for.  When the fostering phase of their lives came to a close, Ali transitioned to work as a home health aide. Her kindness and thoughtfulness knew no bounds as she went above and beyond to help her patients without hesitation.

In her spare time, Ali liked to hunt for a good bargain, and when she found one, she would often buy several of the same items, so as not to miss a great deal! Her patience and creativity were evident in the details of the numerous "Diamond art" projects she crafted at her kitchen table. Ali's connection with animals was incredible, stemming from her time working with her family's riding stable as a child where she learned to break and ride horses. Her love of animals extended to horses, dogs, pigs, and just about every other animal…except for chickens!

Above all, Ali loved the Lord with her whole heart. She served as His hands and feet, reaching out to those in need with love and compassion. A devoted member of EPIC Church in Mishawaka from its inception, Ali found joy in attending Sunday gatherings, strengthening her faith, and connecting with her community.
