Angela Smith Obituary

Angela Lee Smith, age 59 of Mishawaka, passed away September 12, 2022. Angie was born May 14, 1963, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Clarence George and Hilda Ruth (Vergon) Smith.

She is survived by her daughters Bailey (Bobby) Crowder and Sarah Stanley, both of Mishawaka and her grandchildren Landon, Conner, Sadie, Jackson, Allison and Ryot. Surviving as well are her sisters Mary Lane of Mishawaka, Clarice “Georgine” Wharton, and Hilda Ruth “Rose” (Brad) Krol, both of South Bend.   She was preceded in death by her siblings Patricia Learman, Norma Adams, Diane Ball, Carl George Smith and Charles Edward Smith.

A celebration of Angie’s life will be held at a later date.  Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting with her arrangements.

Angie had a bold and determined spirit and taught herself to sew at an early age. She used her skills as a seamstress at Coachman RV in Elkhart and out west in Washington for many years, sewing and upholstering numerous parts for recreational vehicles.  Her family will remember her as a hard worker who never complained and sacrificed to provide for her family so they would never go without.

When she returned to the Michiana area, she began babysitting her grandchildren every day. Angie put her family first in everything she did, and her grandchildren were the light of her life.  She loved taking the grandchildren to Barnaby’s for dinner on Friday nights and watching them play arcade games before dinner arrived.  She also took great joy in letting her grandkids spend the entire week before Christmas with her so her daughters could spend time preparing their homes for the kids to experience the magic of the season.

Angie also loved animals and always had dogs, cats, and numerous chickens at her home at any given time.  Because of her love for animals, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Rd, Mishawaka, IN 46545.  To share a story of her life, light a virtual candle in her memory, or leave a message of comfort for family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
