Arlene B. (Johnson) Swartz

Arlene B. Swartz, age 89 of Osceola, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the Center for Hospice in Elkhart.  Arlene was born April 10, 1930 in Ligonier, Indiana to the late Walter and Ruby (Smith) Johnson.  Arlene was a graduate of Wawaka High School, class of 1948.  On October 7, 1950, she married William H. Swartz Jr. in Wawaka, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 2015.

Surviving are her children Candy (Cliff) Beers of Goshen, Indiana, Stephen (Sharon) Swartz of Elkhart, and Robert (Joyce) Swartz of Arkansas.  Also surviving are her grandchildren Bridgette (Brian) O’Boyle, Andy (Kammi) Swartz, Trevor (Amanda) Beers, Katie Beers, and Brittany (Garron) Peacock.  She is survived as well by her great-grandchildren Logan, Lincoln and Madison. 

Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola.  Chaplain Neil Davis of the Center for Hospice will officiate the 4:00 pm funeral service immediately following the viewing on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Cruz Family Funeral Home.  Interment will be held at 1:00pm Monday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Arlene was employed for several years as a Nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend.  She later worked for Associates in South Bend as a keypunch operator before becoming a homemaker in her later years. 

In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, camping and boating with her family watching the birds outside her window, and attending Bethany Lutheran Church in South Bend.   Most of all, Arlene adored her grandchildren.  She and her husband loved taking them “amusement park” hopping and “dollar store” shopping throughout the area.  She also loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.
