Barry Robin Metcalf, age 65 of Bristol, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at Elkhart General Hospital on October 30, 2021.  Barry was born September 17, 1956, in Elkhart, Indiana to the late Herbert and Donna Jean (Gentzhorn) Metcalf.  His mother passed away in 1969 and his father later married Nellie Marie (Hicks) Metcalf who passed away in 2016.  Herbert preceded Barry in death, passing away in 2015.

Surviving are his sons Bryce (Rachael) Metcalf of Osceola and Nate Metcalf of Bristol, Indiana.  Surviving as well are his brothers Brent (Traci) Metcalf of South Bend and Brian (Pat) Metcalf of Washington.  Surviving as well are 3 nephews, a great niece and nephew, and his mother-in-law Jan Weaver of Elkhart.  His infant brother, Patrick Glenn Metcalf passed away in June of 1962.

Barry was employed for several years driving semis for UPS where he was known to his fellow drivers as “Dutch.”  His route took him daily to Indianapolis and back so he could be home with his family in the evenings. He had retired from driving triple trailers for UPS in 2016 but kept very busy in his spare time by learning vinyl graphic design, 3D printing, wood carving, and emulating and building functioning pinball machines. He also loved to spend time smoking meats for his family and friends and spent many evenings shooting trap at the Edwardsburg Conservation Club.  He also enjoyed the steak dinners at the Bristol American Legion several times a month.

More than anything, Barry will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others.  Any chance he had to help others; he took.  Even in his unexpected death, Barry chose to help others in need through the gift of life and organ and tissue donation. The example of honesty and leadership that he instilled in his sons will carry his memory forever.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edwardsburg Conservation Club or the American Legion in Bristol.  To light a virtual candle, leave a message of comfort for the Metcalf family, or share a story of Barry’s life, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
