Charles Evans Obituary

Charles W. Evans, age 82 of Osceola, passed away after a brief illness on March 20, 2023, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.  Chuck was born May 15, 1940, in Herrin, Illinois, to the late Thomas and Stella Evans.  On December 2, 1961, he married Jacquelyn White in South Bend.  They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Jackie survives, along with their children, Sean Evans of Osceola, Rachel Amy Evans-Tribble of Elkhart, and Dan (Elizabeth) Evans of South Bend, and his grandson, Peyton Tribble of Elkhart.   Surviving as well are his siblings, Robert “Bob” Evans of Osceola, Dorothy Rupert, and David Freehling, both of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Evans and Stella Mersaros, and his siblings Gene Evans, James “Jimmy” Evans, Paul Evans, Deana Mersaros, Mary Ann Cruz, and Norma Rose-Reatz.

There will be no formal services for Chuck.  His family asks that you remember him in your own special way.  Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.

Chuck was employed as a diesel technician with Penske Truck Leasing for over 40 years before his retirement.  During his long and rewarding career, Chuck was a member of the Teamsters Union.  Following retirement, Chuck worked part-time for BABSCO Electric for several years.  He and his family also owned Baugo Fishing and Tackle in Osceola and he served his hometown as a reserve Police Officer on the Osceola Police Department for several years, where he was well respected by both his fellow officers and the residents of the community.

More than anything, Chuck was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family.  His kindness to others, his positive attitude and his unmatched sense of humor will live on through his family and numerous friends whose lives he influenced.

In his memory, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.  To light a virtual candle, share a story of Chuck’s life, or leave a message of comfort for his family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
