Obituary

Doris June Lehman, age 98 of Osceola, passed away at her residence on Friday, March 31, 2023.  She was born March 4, 1925, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Matthew and Ruth (Landaw) Mazurkiewicz.  She attended Mishawaka High School and on October 2, 1948, Doris married Oscar William “Bill” Lehman in South Bend, Indiana. Bill preceded her in death in 1970.

She is survived by her children Terry Lee (Jennifer) Bowers of Davao City, Philippines, and Cynthia Lynn (Richard) Mapes of Manitou Beach, Michigan, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.   Surviving as well are her siblings Matthew Mazurkiewicz of South Bend, Clara Stickles of Germantown, Tennessee, Helen Dudeck of Osceola, and John Mazurkiewicz of Cutbank, Montana. Doris is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she was very fond of, her Godson Dick Besinger, and her “Notre Dame family” Jackie, Jim, Scot, Kim, Peter and Becky.  She was preceded in death by her son, Ronald William Lehman in 1996, her siblings Katherine Besinger, Mary Geist, Loretta Marshall, Bill Mazurkiewicz, and JoAnn Ransberger and her grandson Zakkary Mapes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at 12pm with 2 hours of visitation prior to the service at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka.  Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend.  Cruz Family Funeral Home of Osceola has been entrusted with her arrangements.

Doris was employed for over 35 years as a bank teller throughout the Michiana area with First Source Bank where she was a founding member of the “Women’s Club” through the bank.  Doris was due to be honored in May of 2023 as the last original member of the club.  After her retirement, Doris worked part time at the University of Notre Dame where she helped count money from ticket sales and concessions following sporting events, and continued to help at First Source Bank wherever she was needed.

In her spare time, she loved going out to eat at different restaurants in the area, shopping and going on shopping trips out of state with her sister Kate.

Most of all, Doris loved being a mother to her children.  They loved her sense of humor and wonderful laugh. She enjoyed spending the holidays with her daughter Cindy in Michigan and made sure that Terry always had a special care package delivered regularly as he worked and traveled throughout the United States.

In her memory, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, the ASPCA or to her family to assist with her final expenses.   To light a virtual candle, make a donation, share a story of Doris’ life, or leave a message of comfort for her family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
