Ida L. (Jones) Bumpus

Ida L. Bumpus, age 90 of Elkhart, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023.  She was born on April 1, 1933, to the late Perry and Beatrice (Stringer) Jones in Ilasco, MO. On August 21, 1954, she married Charlie Bumpus in Elkhart. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 2014.

Together, Charlie and Ida had 4 children. Surviving are Nila J. Jackson of Osceola, Thomas E. Bumpus of Jimtown, and Marti Pratt of Elkhart. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Perry Bumpus and two sisters, Betty Griffin and Dora Crisler. Ida also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Ida’s focus belonged to faith and her family. Although it had been some time since she was able to regularly attend a local church, her family recognized Ida’s faith was still very important to her.  Ida also loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. As her own children were young, they recalled going on new adventures every summer and being able to travel and camp all over the United States. Ida spent countless hours playing games, especially Yahtzee and Scrabble, with those closest to her and enjoyed canning fruits and veggies from her garden to share during mealtimes. In the quiet moments, Ida enjoyed crocheting and reading.  

Ida’s wishes were to be cremated and a Memorial Service is scheduled for 4:30 pm on Saturday, September 23rd, 2023,  at Jamestown United Methodist with a time for food and fellowship to follow. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Osceola has been entrusted with her care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
