Joyce Ann Powell

Joyce Ann Powell, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at her home in Elkhart on the morning of November 12, 2020.  Joyce was born December 21, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Johnny and Catherine (Newhouse) Powell. 

She is survived by her children Dohn Cunningham of Mishawaka, William Cunningham of Louisville, Kentucky, Steven Cunningham of Elkhart, Kevin Cunningham of Louisville, Kentucky, Kellie DiPiro, and Victor Valdez, both of Elkhart.  Surviving as well is her brother Lionel Peoples of Seattle, Washington, 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her son Charles Cunningham in 2014 and her brothers Donald, Russell, and Earl. 

Services for Joyce will be held privately. Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with her arrangements.

Joyce was employed for many years in sales and marketing. She loved to travel and drive across the country, so Joyce took a position as the regional trainer for Domino’s Pizza throughout South Texas.  Her position at Domino’s allowed her to combine her expertise in mentoring others with her passion for travel.  She eventually retired at the age of 72. 

In her younger years, Joyce enjoyed photography and developing her own photos in her darkroom.  Later, her talent for crafting and her artistic abilities led her to learn to create handcrafted jewelry.  Joyce also loved electronics and would buy used or nonfunctional electronics so she could take them apart, learn how they worked, and tinker in repairing them.
