Lisa Cour Obituary

Lisa Gail Cour, 61, transitioned from this world into the next on Thursday, November 24, 2022. Lisa was born to the late Jesse and Mirtie (Geans) Heavner in South Bend, Indiana on September 27, 1961.

Lisa was the youngest of 5 children in this facet of the Heavner family. She attended Penn High School and married her first love, Harold “Hal” Barnes, Jr. on July 5, 1977. They welcomed their only child, Brandy, into their family on December 17, 1979. Lisa and Hal built a nice little life for themselves and owned the Snow Peak in Osceola. They worked hard and enjoyed owning and working in a family run business in their hometown. Lisa lost Hal on February 19, 1984, and she continued to work hard to raise their daughter as a newly single mom. Lisa later met her second husband, Rick Cour, and were wed on December 23, 1996. This date was chosen to commemorate their first date. Together, they celebrated 22 years of marriage until his passing on June 7, 2018.

Though Lisa suffered the loss of 2 loves prior to her passing, she knew the love of her own daughter, her beautiful grandchildren who she adored and loved tremendously, and her “bonus” kids as the result of a blended marriage. She worked hard to contribute to her household and was a school bus driver for Elkhart Community Schools for 15 years until her retirement. Lisa loved the “Third Coast” and traveled whenever possible to Traverse City, Michigan, and all points in between. She often commented after losing her second husband that she would love to pickup and live on the lake even during the winter months, so long as she didn’t have to drive! Lisa enjoyed attending auctions, the Elkhart ArtWalk, having her favorite mocha drink from the Electric Brew in downtown Elkhart, and most recently, she was the head of the Elkhart Book Club. As most who knew Lisa could attest that she was a voracious reader. Being a part of the book club was right up her alley and a true value to her life.

Most of all, Lisa garnered the most joy from watching her grandchildren grow up. The stories about the time she spent with them was shared with anyone who she interacted with. Lisa has high aspirations for them all, and it is through them that her legacy will thrive. We will all miss her cooking, her special red velvet cake, her knack for finding that special gift on your birthday or the holiday, and the lengthy phone calls to catch up on the latest in her world. We will certainly miss her, but she will live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish Lisa is her daughter, Brandy (Bret) Posey; grandchildren, Chase Ellsworth, Savannah Barnes, Cayden Hess and Neala Cour;  sisters, Sue (Bob) White and Trenda (Jerry) Moore; brother, David (Debbie) Heavner; stepdaughter, Angie (Larry) Walters; stepson, Andrew (Tara Foster) Cour, as well as a whole host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, Hal, and husband, Rick, Lisa was preceded in death by her brother, Don Heavner.
