Nadine Opal (Wallace) Rice

Nadine Opal Rice, age 95 of Osceola, passed away at Elkhart General Hospital on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Nadine was born October 11, 1927, in Marshall County, Indiana to the late Harry and Nellie (Dawson) Wallace. Following her graduation from Argos High School, she married B. Dean Rice on July 13, 1946. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing on September 12, 2004.

She is survived by her daughter Beverly (Roger) Wood of South Bend and her grandchildren Troy (Marie) Wood of Kenmore, New York, Todd (Julie) Wood of Mishawaka, Indiana and Ty (Lori) Wood of Brownsburg, Indiana. Surviving as well are her grandchildren Kam, Lily, Courtney, Todd Jr., Joshua, Kassandra, Jacob, Carter and Braden, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Roena, Alvina, Juanita, Linda, Burton, Derl, Clayton, Merlin and Devere. Visitation will be held from 11am-12:30 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola. Her family will officiate her funeral service immediately following viewing at 12:30 pm and Nadine will be laid to rest beside her husband Dean at 3pm at New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth.

She was employed for many years as a United Food and Commercial Workers meat wrapper at National Food Stores and later, Wilts Grocery Store in Mishawaka. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, stitching and crafting, and often used her talents to make handmade items such as hats and scarves to the “Busy Hands” project which provided items for the homeless. Nadine enjoyed playing games such as Uno, BINGO and Aggravation with her family.
