Paul Calvin Foltz, 95, passed away just after 8:00pm, Friday March 24, 2023, at his son’s home in Mishawaka, where he had been living since September 9, 2019. Paul was born May 3, 1927 to Forest Calvin and Mary Alice (White) Foltz in their home. Paul had 1 big brother and 4 sisters. His two surviving sisters are Glenda and Mary Saurwein. Preceding him in death, his parents, his brother Darrell Foltz, sisters Betty Morrison and Carol Lou Barnes. Paul married Virginia Lee Powell on December 13, 1947. They had 3 children, Christine, Minnesota, Mark, Mishawaka  and Laurence Gene, (Sherrie) Foltz in Debary FL. Virginia died January 14, 2016, in Florida. Paul has 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. When Paul was young, he delivered newspapers. He also hitchhiked out to farms to do chores and bale hay for a little money to spend. Paul quit high school in spring of 1944 to join the Navy right after his 17th birthday. He served on the destroyer U.S.S Mayrant D.D. 402 in the pacific theater until the end of WWII. Upon returning home Paul met and married the love of his life, Virginia, and finished high school. Paul and Virginia went to New York where he attended Baptist Bible Seminary. After returning to Mishawaka, Paul worked at I&M power plant at Twin Branch Dam. His jobs after that were F. W Means for several years, Thompson Screw Prods, and Reese Prods, in Elkhart for 13 years until he retired. Paul started at Reese as a salesman, then coordinator, and eventually sales manager. Paul enjoyed playing golf. He was pretty good for a part time golfer. Every Saturday he would golf with son mark and 2 other co-workers. After retiring Paul and Virginia moved to Florida. They also went to missionary camp and eventually helped on the mission field in Thailand for several months. Paul had a heart of gold. He helped his sons and daughter get started financially in life. He bought his father a car in 1973. He bought a heating and cooling system for his mother-in-law’s home. If any of his family needed washer, dryer, fridge, stove, carpet, or TVs, he would buy it for them. He also gave gifts of cash to friends and family, churches, and preachers. Paul also leaves behind 2 15-year-old cats, Ornery and Pumpkin. He loved them and they loved him. I love him and miss him. A special thanks to all of the nurses at SO. Care hospice, especially his primary nurse, “Heather,” Karen and Amy. Paul was 40 days short of 96. There will be no viewing of services.
