Richard "Rick" Conner Obituary

Richard Lee “Rick” Conner, age 69, passed away at his home in Osceola on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.  Rick was born February 6, 1954, in Mishawaka, Indiana to the late John S. and Margaret (Pavlik) Conner.  On December 23, 2009, Rick married Mary L. Herdman on their 30-acre property in Osceola.

Mary survives, along with Rick’s siblings Judy (Bob) Tyler of Chesterton, Indiana, Dr. John S. (Leslie) Conner, MD of Pocatello, Idaho, his fur baby, “Elsie” the Chocolate Lab, and his daughters Jill and Leslie.  He was preceded in death by his brother Lowell Robert S. Conner.

Services for Rick will be held privately at a later date.  Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.

Rick graduated from Penn High School in 1972 and enrolled in the Animal Husbandry program at Purdue University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1977.  With his degree, Rick took a position in St. Louis, Missouri with the County Parks Department for several years, helping to maintain the parks, coordinate programs and working closely with the community.  During his time in public service, Rick assisted in a unique role at Anheuser Busch, where he worked directly with the company's iconic Clydesdales. Later, Rick launched his own business, UpTime Inc. where he applied his skills as both an operator and mechanic of heavy machinery for over two decades before retiring in 2010.

In his spare time, Rick enjoyed cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears or exploring the wilderness on his 4-wheeler across his property in Osceola. Rick's passion for outdoors extended to his favorite place on earth, Lance Creek, Wyoming. Here, amidst the serene landscape, he pursued his love for deer hunting and his unique hobby of collecting fossils to add to his vast collection.

Rick will be remembered for his fun and adventurous spirit as well as his kindness and generosity. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, a trait that endeared him to all. His willingness to selflessly help others in times of need made him a cherished friend, neighbor, and family member.
