There will be a celebration of Stephen’s life at a later date.  Cruz Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Osceola has been entrusted with his care.

Stephen was employed as a route salesman for the Pepsi Cola Company for more than 25 years before retiring in the early 1990’s. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed camping trips with his family. He was always the designated RV driver, ensuring that every trip was filled with fun and unforgettable memories.

Hockey was Stephen's true sporting passion, and he wore his love for the Chicago Blackhawks and Notre Dame Hockey like a badge of honor. As a season ticket holder, he cheered on the Fighting Irish with enthusiasm and pride. He also shared this passion with his sons as they visited numerous hockey arenas throughout the US, creating lasting memories that will remain forever in their hearts.

Stephen’s quiet demeanor was often overshadowed by his wonderful sense of humor. His ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures and "go with the flow" attitude will be remembered by all who knew him.

Above all, Stephen was a devoted husband, an adoring father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. His selflessness and dedication were evident in the way he continually put the needs of his family above his own, even throughout his illnesses.

Because of his love for his pets, the Vargo family has requested donations be made in Stephen’s memory to the St. Joseph County Humane Society.  To light a virtual candle, share a story of Stephen’s life, or leave a message of comfort for his family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
