Theresa "Patty" Slocum Obituary

Theresa Rose “Patty” Slocum, age 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the morning of April 1, 2022, at her home in Mishawaka.  Theresa was born August 30, 1940, in Taylorville, Illinois, to the late Charles and Ollie (Edwards) Durbin.  On September 1, 1956, she married Clyde Orville Slocum in Osceola, Indiana.  They celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Clyde survives, along with their daughters Debbie Fair and her husband John of South Bend, Terri Barger of Mishawaka, and Vickie Maley and her husband Tom of Kendallville, Indiana. Surviving as well are her grandchildren Markus Fair and his wife Natalie, Julie Fair, Darcy Fair, Chad Barger, Stacy Barger, Rachelle Herron and her husband Keith and Courtney Ozminkowski and her husband JD. Theresa is also survived by her great grandchildren Willa Sue and Leni June Fair, Jordyn Herron, and Elijah and Malia Ozminkowski as well as her sisters Donna Eberline of Mishawaka and Judy Shaw of Orange City, Florida, her brother-in-law Thomas Slocum and her sister-in-law Cheryl Slocum.  “Favorite Aunt Patty” also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her son Daniel Slocum and her grandson Steven Robert Maley as well as her siblings; Darrell, Robert, Noble, Rodell and Charles Jr. Durbin, Bernadine Jones, Pauline Pride, Evelyn Tillman, Beatrice McManus, Betty Hickman, Carolyn Lindstrand, Eileen Brown and Delores Thompson.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Cruz Family Funeral Home in Osceola.  There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am funeral service at Cruz Family Funeral Home on Wednesday April 6, 2022 with Dr. Michael Cramer of New Life Church presiding.  Theresa will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka.

Theresa, or Patty, depending on what stage of life she met you in, was employed as an assembler at the Vincent-Bach Corporation for over 35 years before retiring in 2007.  Outside of work, she preferred to spend her time with her family.  She and Clyde simply enjoyed being together and Theresa put the needs of her family above all else.  Her sense of humor and generosity towards those she loved was unmatched, and she passed those traits to her children and those who knew her.

Most of all, Theresa loved the Lord with all her heart.  She and Clyde made sure their children were raised knowing the love of God and after the untimely death of her son Daniel, the church became the hands and feet of Jesus- showing His love to the family during their time of need.  Theresa dedicated her life to the Lord after that and often shared her faith and the plan of salvation with others.  She knew the importance of leading others to Christ and believed it was important that her family knew the Lord.

Because of her unwavering faith, the family asks that donations be made to New Life Church to be used towards Missions so others may come to know Christ.  To light a virtual candle, share a story of Theresa’s life, or leave a message of comfort for her family, please follow the links provided on the tribute wall tab above.
